KIOXIA introduces E1.L QLC-based SSDs for hyperscale data centers
KIOXIA LD4 series enables high-density flash storage in 1U server environments
- Düsseldorf, Germany, 9 October 2026
- KIOXIA Europe GmbH
KIOXIA Europe GmbH today announced KIOXIA's first E1.L form factor SSD built with BiCS FLASH™ generation 8 QLC flash memory. Amid the ever-growing demand for data – including data for AI – hyperscale data centers are increasingly adopting high-density designs to achieve greater storage capacity within limited server space.
The KIOXIA LD4 Series is designed for high-density 1U servers and read-intensive storage applications. KIOXIA LD4 Series drives are currently sampling[1] to select customers and will be showcased at the 2026 OCP Global Summit, taking place from October 12 to 15 in San Jose, California.
Key features of the KIOXIA LD4 Series include:
- PCIe 5.0 (Gen 4 x4)[2], NVMe 2.0e specification compliant
- Support for Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD Specification v2.6
- Single-port design for hyperscale and data center-class servers
- Available in 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB capacities, with validated architecture enabling capacities up to 122.88 TB
- Built with BiCS FLASH™ generation 8 QLC flash memory
"Data centre operators are under increasing pressure to fit more compute and storage into every rack without exceeding the limits of available power, cooling and physical space," said Paul Rowan, Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at KIOXIA Europe GmbH. "The KIOXIA LD4 Series addresses the storage side of this challenge by combining the density advantages of the E1.L form factor with high-capacity BiCS FLASH™ generation 8 QLC 3D flash memory technology, helping hyperscale operators maximise storage capacity within their existing infrastructure."
Notes
[1] These samples are for functional check purposes only and the specifications of the samples may differ in mass production.
[2] Compliant with the PCIe 5.0 specification, with speed up to 16 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) x4.
Read and write speed may vary depending on various factors such as host devices, software (drivers, OS etc.), and read/write conditions.
Definition of capacity: KIOXIA defines a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1TB = 240 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
