RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment)

The European Union (EU) RoHS directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) 2011/65/EU and the extension to four more substances 2015/863 (amending Annex II of 2011/65/EU) are intended to limit the use of substances that may pose risks to human health or the environment.

This directive is binding inside of the EU but other country may have adapted the RoHS requirements as well. Otherwise the country specific requirements on countries outside of the EU apply.

  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%)
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1%)
  • Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (0.1 %)
  • Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1 %)
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0.1 %)
  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1 %)

It is KIOXIA's policy to conduct business in a manner consistent with sound environmental management practices and to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Through the use of design and best management practices improvements are continually made to conserve natural resources and to minimize the use of environmentally sensitive materials.

All products, which KIOXIA is putting on the European market are in line with the requirements of the RoHS directive.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

The European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation 1907/2006 entered into force on 1 June 2007 Europe-wide.

Based on KIOXIA's Commitment to put concern for the environment as a priority in all our business activities so as to protect people's safety and health as well as the world's natural resources, KIOXIA supports the overall goal of REACH and is committed to comply and to fulfil all legal obligations and is committed to provide our customers with information about the chemical substances in our products according to the REACH regulation.

Since 5 January 2021 every company is furthermore obliged to declare all products containing SVHC substance in an EU database called SCIP, established by ECHA. On request KIOXIA can provide the SCIP (Substances of Concern In Products) reference number for each concerned product.

WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment)

The use of the symbol "crossed-out wheeled bin" on the product label indicates, that this product must not be treated as household waste. By ensuring this product is disposed correctly you will help to prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health, which could otherwise be caused by inappropriate waste handling of this product. For more detailed information about recycling of this product please contact your local city office, your household waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.

EU WEEE Directive

The European Union (EU) WEEE directive (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) 2012/19/EU is intended to protect the global environment and human health through the prudent use of natural resources and the adoption of waste management strategies that focus on recycling and reuse. Each member state has established a country-specific legislation based on the EU directive. Manufacturers or importers responsibility will include meeting labelling requirements, providing information to end users, channel and treatment facilities, ensuring the availability of collection infrastructure, submitting sales and recovery data, and financing WEEE costs in countries where our products fall within the scope of the WEEE directive only.

KIOXIA is working with design teams, suppliers, and other partners to determine end-of-life strategies for our products. KIOXIA established a local environmental department responsible for WEEE implementation in Europe. KIOXIA is registered in Germany (Stiftung EAR) and the respective importers are registered in other European countries than Germany.
